Google has attempted to make its website more safe for kids by removing the indecent pictures taken by their street view camera and replacing it with 8 bit graphics in an effort to avoid being taken down by a newly formed government agency called the National Intellectual Property Protection Legislation Enforcer.

Happy April fools day.

It suddenly came to my attention that Mysterious Girlfriend X was going to air as anime starting April 7th on Tokyo MX. Why is it such big news to me? Well, I’ve been busy, and I’ve been following the manga about the mystery of adolescence. Since I do not read a lot of manga I seldom get to experience the exhilaration of seeing black and white manga characters come to technicolor life. The last one I had was Mirai Nikki. And I enjoyed this manga.

All I need now is a pair of scissors.

Not too long ago (roughly 3 years) I wrote a simple little program that allowed me to spam this blog very quickly with posts from all sorts of anime. It’s that day again, Hinamatsuri, also known as Hinagiku’s Festival (I jest.) So I shall today open a bottle of aged wine and drink it to celebrate.

I thought I had already given up hope after watching Fate/Stay Night and finding myself falling asleep when wind of Fate/Zero reached my ears. Being the very open minded person I am, I decided to run it past myself. Fate/Zero is the prequel to what would be a rather boring Fate/Stay Night, and apparently shows that just before Shirou and company got together, some very epic battles were fought.

But first of all! We MUST mention the girls of Fate/Stay Night (since it was a game about girls!) making appearances as children as the war for the Holy Grail begins. Not only do we see what Sakura has been through since the very beginning, we also see more of her family members now. Something we do not see much of. SAKURA IS SO CUTE AS A CHILD. Well of course, she is a child after all.

She’s only a child though, so back off.

Also, we get to see my favorite girl in Fate/Stay Night, Rin!! I have always loved twintails, but Rin just takes it up to eleven by wearing it EVER SINCE CHILDHOOD.

And while we’re talking about Rin, I must say that Tokiomi really is Rin’s father. I can see where Rin got her good looks from.

Also, it turns out that that crazy guy in gold in Fate/Stay Night that had all those crazy ass swords shot from some crazy watery ripply surface behind him was actually summoned by Tokiomi. He was an archer too! I see Rin follows closely in her father’s footsteps.

Next we find Shirou’s “dad”, Kiritsugu who really doesn’t look like he’s got a lot of fight in him, though the OP does make him look like a smoking badass. There is little to say about him besides the fact that he’s got the same servant Shirou did. Like father like son.

Meet Saber, the older-than-print King of Knights who sit at a round table. Well, back then Kings were girls. True story.

Beyond all that I think the highlight of the first episode of Fate Zero would be its Opening Theme. Some very well animated sequences actually left me anticipating the rest of the series. In short, I cannot wait to see the rest of it.

For example, Saber gets to transform from being in a suit

Into her battledress. Like, literally.

We also get to see some crazy ass wangst coming out of Kariya. I cannot wait to see what he can do with those bugs and his berserker.

and best of all, I think the animators are pretty damn pleased with themselves for making something so awesome again, just when I was about to lose hope in anime.

Its that time of year again where I jump on a plane and fly to the city of sails where the New Zealand anime art even of the year is held. Here is Kagami sitting pretty in Tullamarine airport waiting for our air transport to carry us out of the down under.

The plane had a screw loose in it so we ended up crashing into the event a little early. But we already saw some very awesome cosplays.

And a genderbender. “double-u tee eff to that”

But there didn’t seem to be a lot of cosplayers this year, probably because they were hiding from me or they came to the event really late.

The organizers of Doujin Overload seem to have played the events Eyezmaze right, since already at the 4th turn 2 booths levelled up into Game-Producing Booths! Earok’s arcade turned out to be a nice little collection of simple but very amusing games.

And this bunch created a nice little visual novel. I wonder when we will see an NZ version of 7th expansion…

Also highly notable are the Mami and Homerun booth, which were selling some very kickass art.

And there was some very shoujo art going on over at Taiga’s booth.

Also, IG productions has this awesome Miku selling awesome artbooks containing some very rave colors.

Shana, to our surprise is not only skilled in the art of swordplay, but also in the art of drawing, it seems.

There was also the staple corporate booth, where I found a nice cheap BD of a certain movie complete with deleted scenes to play on the PS3 at home.

A bit of good loot from the event. Overall it was fun for about the first hour of being there, but after that I just became preoccupied with finishing Earok’s games at the booth, and then proceeded to also finish their other unpublished but very fun games.

After that, simply wandering aimlessly around the city turned out to be a lot more exciting.
